Martian Rock, Ice Crack and Time Mark: Three Scratch-Protected Stainless Steel Worktop Patterns

From our large range of surface patterns, we offer 8 selected patterns for stainless steel worktops. This is the first of three articles in which we describe them one by one. We start with three textured patterns: Martian rock, Ice crack and Time mark. All three are protected against scratching and made on solid 304 stainless steel.

What sets QLdecor apart

Steel worktops are most often offered in smooth or brushed steel. QLdecor stands out with a wide range of textured and graphic patterns, of which we offer 8 selected ones. Patterns such as Martian rock, Ice crack and Time mark give a steel worktop an individual character while keeping the practical strengths of steel: hygiene, durability and protection against scratching.

The three patterns at a glance

Martian rock is our newest pattern: a texture inspired by volcanic rock, protected against scratching, with a surface on which fingerprints simply do not appear. Ice crack is a set of delicate lines reminiscent of marble veins or cracked ice. Time mark is a distinct, embossed, fine-grained structure with an irregular character.

Martian rock: our newest pattern

Martian rock has a texture inspired by volcanic rock. The surface can be felt under the hand and reacts interestingly to light, so the worktop has character instead of looking like smooth sheet metal.

On smooth steel every touch leaves a mark and the worktop needs constant polishing. On Martian rock fingerprints simply do not form. It is a unique property of this surface and a practical advantage in a kitchen where you cook every day, in a home with children, and in an open-plan living space where the worktop is on display.

Ice crack: delicate lines like marble veins

Ice crack is a drawing of fine, branching lines that recalls marble veining or cracked ice. The pattern is refined and calm. In our showroom the kitchen island is finished in Ice crack, combined with our fronts.

Time mark: an embossed, fine-grained structure

Time mark is a distinct embossed structure with an irregular, fine-grained surface. It scatters light well and gives the worktop a raw, industrial character. Textured patterns hide everyday marks better than a smooth surface.

Scratch protection

The most common concern about steel worktops is scratching. As one of the few manufacturers in the world, we protect steel against scratching. This applies to all three patterns in this article, and to 7 of our 8 patterns in total. As a result, the worktop keeps its appearance in everyday use.

See the patterns in motion

Below is a short video showing all 8 patterns we offer, including the three described in this article. It shows better than a photo how the textures behave in light.

Worktop specification

Solid 304 stainless steel in 5, 6, 8 and 10 mm thickness. The worktop is not hollow inside. The sink can be integrated into the worktop as a single piece, and every worktop is made to measure, with hob cut-outs and other elements as designed. Grade 316 is available on request.

Which of the three should you choose?

If you want a worktop with no fingerprints at all, choose Martian rock. If you are looking for a subtle, refined drawing, choose Ice crack. If you like a pronounced, raw texture, choose Time mark. Light changes the look of each of them, so it is worth seeing a sample in your own space.

Care

For everyday care, a paper towel and water are enough. No liquids or special cleaning products are needed. Avoid strongly acidic cleaners. As with any worktop, we do not recommend cutting directly on the surface.

The other patterns

In the next articles we will cover the remaining patterns: Cross, Star rain, Willow stripe, Snowflake steel and Long brush. You can see all the patterns on the QLdecor stainless steel worktops page, and read about the general pros and cons of steel in stainless steel worktops: pros and cons. Frequently Asked Questions

What is Martian rock?

Martian rock is our newest surface pattern for stainless steel worktops: a texture inspired by volcanic rock, made on solid 304 stainless steel and protected against scratching.

Do Martian rock, Ice crack and Time mark worktops scratch?

We protect the steel against scratching on all three patterns (and on 7 of our 8 patterns in total), so the worktop keeps its appearance in everyday use. As with any worktop, we do not recommend cutting directly on the surface.

Do fingerprints stay on Martian rock?

No. Fingerprints simply do not appear on a Martian rock surface. It is a unique property of this surface, so the worktop does not need constant polishing like smooth steel.

What is the difference between Ice crack and Time mark?

Ice crack is a set of delicate, branching lines reminiscent of marble veins or cracked ice. Time mark is a distinct, embossed, fine-grained structure with an irregular surface.

What thicknesses and options do worktops with these patterns have?

Solid 304 stainless steel in 5, 6, 8 and 10 mm, made to measure, with the sink integrated into the worktop as a single piece. Grade 316 is available on request.

How can I see these patterns before ordering?

You can request a steel sample and see and feel the surface in your own space. We also show the patterns in the gallery on the steel worktops page and in the video in this article.
